Doctoral Students as Future Teachers at Universities: Factors Related to Professional Identity

Abstract Doctoral students’ professional identity in higher education institutions is a relevant field of research the context for sustainable development. Higher face following challenge: it very important students to develop skills researcher during their studies; however, competencies teacher are crucial order become part institution. Thus, development teacher’s plays meaningful role retaining gifted young scientists at institutions. The article analyzes psychological, social and academic environmental factors that identification studies. sample study consisted 494 from 22 Lithuania. was conducted using Teachers’ Professional Role Identity Scale, Big Five Inventory, Social Support Questionnaire two scales compiled measure factors. results revealed external thinking style, personality traits extraversion conscientiousness, perceived support family friends, material conditions internships conferences other environment significant with role. These have practical application satisfaction studies, productivity career management. This seeking goals education.
